Personalized At-Home
Bar & Bat Mitzvahs

“My child wants a bar/bat mitzvah but the Temple requires a year’s membership and frankly we’re not so interested.”

“We want a meaningful experience that isn’t just a ritual and a party.”

“How can I give my child a connection to Judaism when we’re so far from any Jewish community?”

“My child has learning differences — are there any non-traditional options?”

What's a Bar Mitzvah ?

Contrary to popular belief, becoming bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah isn’t all about chanting the Torah.

The essence of this great rite of passage is taking ownership of our Jewish Wisdom tradition. That means learning what the Torah is and what it’s all about, with enough breadth and depth to be able to say a short D’var Torah – a meaningful and personal Torah wisdom lesson. Depending on the child, the learning may span a period of 12-20 weeks.

Our Program

The Backyard Bar Mitzvah program begins with a weekly Zoom study session with a Rabbi to introduce your child to Torah and help him or her discover meaningful personal connections to our people’s ancient books of wisdom.

The Celebration

The celebration can be held in your literal backyard or any venue that your family finds comfortable (country club, etc.) — anywhere in the world. Family and friends will gather to hear inspiring words from the child, the parents, and of course the Rabbi. Everyone will enjoy music, good food, uplifting speeches and meaningful blessings.
